Makeup Mixology: A Systematic Framework for Understanding and Designing Makeup

Makeup is often taught as a collection of techniques: how to blend eyeshadow, contour a face, create a clean base, choose a lipstick, or execute a particular look.

But technique alone does not create strong makeup.

Across professional makeup education, colour theory, beauty design, photography, and visual art, the same principles appear repeatedly: colour, value, form, texture, proportion, placement, light, and balance.

Once these principles are understood as a system, makeup becomes much easier to learn.

Instead of memorising hundreds of looks, you learn how to construct them.

This is what I call Makeup Mixology:

Every makeup look is simply a different mixture of these elements.
